The Lanzarote delegation present at the WTM 2021, led by the president of the Cabildo, Mª Dolores Corujo, has held between yesterday and today at the WTM 2021 various meetings with international organizations and entities of maximum relevance in the field of sustainability, in order to strengthen cooperation links and reaching integration agreements aimed at reinforcing the island’s position as a sustainable destination.
Mª Dolores Corujo has stressed that “the most important objective of the Cabildo is for the island to regain the international leadership that corresponds to it: the one that has made us a sustainable, exclusive and unique destination in the world, thanks to the legacy of the most universal and ahead of his time, César Manrique “.
The president points out that “Lanzarote is displaying its best credentials before highly strategic transnational entities for the island, due to the existing nexus between sustainability, destination qualification and Premium markets. The results – she adds – are being very positive as we have reached integration agreements , in addition to advancing proposals for mutual collaboration that place us on the international front line as a sustainable destination ”
In this sense, the president of the Cabildo, together with the Lanzarote Tourism team, has held meetings at the highest level with executives from ETOA (European Tourism Association), WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Association), and the British entity The Travel Foundation. On Tuesday afternoon, the Lanzarote delegation is scheduled to hold a meeting with NECStouR (European Regions for Competitiveness and Sustainable Tourism).
Equally noteworthy was the meeting with Jet2, one of the main British operators with Lanzarote, which is making an important commitment to sustainability through the reduction of emissions and innovation in less polluting fuels. At the meeting, a document designed by Jet2 under the title “Net Zero, Sustainability Strategy” was discussed, which may serve as the basis for establishing a joint framework between SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote and the British tourism group.
