Nowhere else is the awesome power of nature to create and to destroy more apparent than on Lanzarote. One of the seven Canary Islands belonging to Spain, Lanzarote is only 120 km from the West Coast of Africa. On this island that captivates visitors with its dramatic scenery, picturesque villages and unique style, probably one of the toughest races in the world is held every year.

How and where to vote in Lanzarote
Submitted by Lynsey on 17 May, 2011 - 11:40In general, voting is universal, free, equal, direct and secret. Voting in Spain is not mandatory, therefore sanctions are not imposed on those who do not vote, even though they have previously declared their desire to do so.
Voting is performed in Polling Stations (Colegios Electorales), which in turn are composed of Sections and Tables (Sección and Mesa).

On the day of voting, voters should go to the Polling Station, Station and Table indicated to them on their voting card between 9am and 8pm.
The polling card is a document showing the current information listed on the Electoral Roll and identifying the Section and Table for each voter. It is important to note that this polling card does not identify the voter. Voters must therefore use one of the documents, which must be original, that is indicated in electoral legislation:

Why Should I Vote in the Lanzarote Local Elections?
Submitted by Lynsey on 13 May, 2011 - 13:06Lots of people are asking "Why should I vote?" and there are a number of reasons why voting is important.
The truth of the matter is simple........ when you don't vote, you let others speak for you.

We are fortunate to have fair and democratic methods in place for the selecting of political representation. To not take part in the process, or to feel like our opinion doesn't matter, would be to waste the incredible power that we posess.
The power of a single vote is staggering. It is our right to stand up and be counted, and the way to do so is by casting our ballot.
To vote is to: -
Speak your mind
To make politicians listen
For your children
For your community
For yourself
To honor history
To control your future
To stop something
To start something
To win
