The island continues to show its strength and has a better growth rate than Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura in the first six months of 2018
Lanzarote obtains “good” tourism data in the first half of the year. According to the data offered through the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC) the first half of 2018 and collected by the Cabildo de Lanzarote in a statement, has left “positive data” for the island of volcanoes in terms of the arrival of tourists; with better growth rates than Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

In total between January and June 1,403,545 people have chosen Lanzarote as a holiday destination , representing an increase of 1.4% over the same period of 2017.

In this way, Lanzarote continues to show its strength as a destination and shows a stable behavior in the arrival of tourists despite the general decline in the influx of travelers to the rest of the Canary Islands. The recovery of stability in destinations that compete directly with the archipelago, such as Turkey, Tunisia, Greece or Morocco, led to a reduction in the number of visitors to the islands. A situation that during the last months has been reflected in the statistical data of the Canary Islands, except for Lanzarote.

“Although it is true that the first semester has shown a slight decrease, compared to the previous year, of visitors from consolidated markets such as the United Kingdom or Germany, 11.5 and 6.1%respectively, that percentage has been compensated with the arrival of national, Dutch and French tourists among others “ , they point out from the Cabildo.

Peninsular tourism grows

In this sense, it is worth noting the growth in the trips to Lanzarote of Spanish tourists, with a high spending capacity in destination, which stands at 2.9% compared to 2017.

The stable behavior of the data in Lanzarote, according to the counselor of Tourism Promotion of the insular institution, Ángel Vázquez (PP), is “the  result of forceful promotional strategies”.

“I highlight the work done from Turismo Lanzarote – SPEL During the last years the public company has reinforced the promotion of Lanzarote as a holiday destination in several European countries to diversify the origin of the tourists that visit us. It has been complemented with the good work of the companies in the sector and the quality of service that is widely available on the island, without forgetting that there have been factors outside the promotion that have been favorable and that we have taken advantage of “, explains the counselor
