This month we met up with members Rooftop Entertainment.
Thanks to Virginia for taking the time to meet up with us and tell us all the news from Rooftop Entertainment. Virginia has been involved with the business since February 2016 prior to its opening in June 2106, and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the business.
Rooftop Entertainment in a fantastic concept offering all year round entertainment for all ages from very young to the more mature. Its continual expansion now sees it offering more and more facilities that now include the Rooftop Cinema, StarCaf, 6D cine, and now the Jurassic Kingdom adventure, mini golf and the brand new soft play area for children.The fully extended chill out terrace has a range of seating areas with fabulous views of the town and across to Fuerteventura. It is also the perfect spot for hosting all types of events and the team are focused on the high level of quality and service they provide.
LBRA. So Virginia what is it like working here?
Virginia. I love it it’s a fantastic place to work, it’s such a great venue and offers so much for everyone. It is in a perfect location with stunning views capturing all the beautiful elements Lanzarote has to offer. I just love watching the people coming in and enjoying what we have to offer. Many are surprised at just how much entertainment we can offer.
LBRA. What’s your favourite part of the experience?
Virginia. For me the cinema, I just love the idea of being able to watch a film in this exclusive area, with comfortable seats and sofas. For me I just love the fact that each table has its own call button so you can just press for snacks and drinks throughout the movie and they are delivered to you. The personal headphones means you can watch the film in the original language. In Spain I know of other outdoor cinemas but none with the personal service and attention that we offer.
LBRA. Do you know what is the most popular film?
Virginia. Yes, Mamma Mia, Grease and the newly released La La Land. It’s the musicals and feel good iconic films which are the most popular. Its funny as a lot of people sing along forgetting they have the headphones on, its lovely to stand and watch them having fun.
LBRA. Does the cinema appeal to all ages?
Virginia.I think in the main it appeals more to adults, but in saying that especially in the school holidays we have many more families and more family and children’s movies. I think adults enjoy the evening atmosphere, as it is something very special, under the stars, sipping cocktails and watching movies.
LBRA. The StarCaf is open all day?
Virginia. Yes its open from 10.00am till late, in the summer the second movie showing is late, so most evenings we are open till midnight or 2.00am in summer, and the late bar is available for cinema clients. During the day and early evenings, the Café is open to everyone; we offer a full range of hot and cold beverages, cocktails, great coffee, paninis with homemade fillings, pastries, and snacks and sweets. Our food menu is not extensive but we offer quality products. The chill out terrace is open all day for food and drinks so you can sit and enjoy the wonderful views, and maybe enjoy a delicious glass of Lanzarote wine or refreshing beer.
LBRA. All the staff are multilingual how easy is it to get staff?
Virginia. Not that easy as we do require staff to be fluent in at least two languages Spanish and English, professional, knowledgeable and have a passion for their work. This is so we can ensure our guests receive the best attention possible. However, in return we do offer good working conditions, so its beneficial for all parties.
LBRA. What do you like to do on your days off?
Virginia. She laughs and says don’t answer the phone, like everyone catching up with everyday stuff, meeting friends, eating out and of course going to the cinema.
LBRA. Are you from Lanzarote?
Virginia. No originally, I am from Argentina but have lived here almost 5 years.
LBRA. Favourite parts of the island or places you like to visit?
Virginia. Arrieta I love the beach and fresh fish. Famara is spectacular, and of course as are Timanfaya and Mirador del Rio. I also enjoy visiting the fabulous wineries we have here.
LBRA. So any more to add?
Virginia. Well maybe just to say how welcome everyone is to visit us, we are here for the residents and well as visitors to our lovely island. And of course to mention the new Kids Zone with soft play area and ball park for our younger visitors, and its free for our customers.
