THANKS TO DIGITAL LANCELOT

The airlines have scheduled 5.6 million seats at the Lanzarote airport for this summer, a significant improvement that brings the situation closer to pre-pandemic times. As a whole, 31.5 million seats have been scheduled at the Canary Islands airports for the summer season, which represents an increase of 9% compared to the 2019 summer season, before the start of the pandemic.

In the international market, the supply of seats increased by 13%, with more than 17.4 million seats, while in the domestic market the increase was 4%, with more than 14 million seats with destinations between Spanish airports . This represents an increase of 17% in the offer with the Peninsula and a decrease of 7% in the Inter-island.

The number of scheduled movements also increased by 4.5%, with just over 222,800 commercial operations. And the number of routes that airlines have projected in the archipelago is 644.

By airports

By number of scheduled seats, Gran Canaria Airport is in the lead, with 8.5 million, 3% more; they are followed by Tenerife Sur, with 7.3 million (+12%); César Manrique-Lanzarote, with 5.6 million and 15% more; Fuerteventura, with 4.4 million (+18%); Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna, 4.4 million seats and an increase of 1.5%; La Palma, with more than 1,166,000 beds, 7.5% more; El Hierro, with 229,200 (+19%); and finally La Gomera, with 94,608 scheduled seats (+8.6%).

After Spain, the countries where airlines have offered a greater number of seats for the 2022 summer season are the United Kingdom, with 7.2 million (+14.6%); Germany, with more than 2.97 million (3.6%); Italy, with 998,000 (+89.66%) and France, with 916,000 (+48%). The increase in places offered compared to 2019 in the Dutch (+19%) and Belgian (15%) markets stands out.

It should be noted that the 2022 summer season lasts one week longer than that of 2019, although the statistics are based on a typical 30-week season, so the data has been adjusted to compensate for the effect of the additional week of the summer season 2022.

Flexible programming and subject to change

The general data for this 2022 summer season is positive, but the degree of uncertainty remains high due to factors such as the evolution of the pandemic, the conflict in Ukraine or the rise in fuel prices. Seating and movement schedules are always subject to change by airlines.

In addition, it must be taken into account that said programming responds to the requests made by the companies to operate in the airports and to the number of seats that they offer to passengers on these flights. Therefore, it is about the offer of seats and flights, not real traffic data, since these are not obtained until the flights are operated and their occupation is known.
