The recommendation is that these meetings be made up of members who belong to the same coexistence group or the two groups are not exceeded

The Government spokesman, Julio Pérez, and the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, explained this Thursday the measures adopted that will come into force, most of them, once published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands and until January 10.

According to the agreement approved today by the Governing Council, the maximum number of people in social and family gatherings that take place in spaces for public and private use, closed or outdoors, will be limited to six people , except in the case of that they are cohabiting, understanding by cohabiting those people who reside in the same address.

Exceptionally, the agreement establishes a maximum number of 10 people attending family meetings or with relatives to celebrate Christmas lunches and dinners on December 24, 25 and 31 and January 1 and 6 , unless it is about cohabitants.

In all cases, children aged 0-6 years are excluded in the computation of these groups.

Trujillo has insisted that the recommendation is that these meetings be made up of members who belong to the same coexistence group or the two groups are not exceeded.

In this regard, he has said that special care must be taken with people in vulnerable situations.

The counselor has explained that another of the measures of the agreement is the limitation of the freedom of movement of people at night, from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. between December 23, 2020 and January 10, 2021, except for performing essential activities.

The exception in this rule will occur on the nights from December 24 to 25 and from December 31 to January 1, in which the restriction schedule will begin at 1.30 am and continue until 6 am.

The agreement includes specific measures for the hotel and restaurant industry, such as the complete closure of establishments before midnight (except in the islands with greater restrictions due to their pandemic situation), the maximum occupancy per table of six people and the distance between chairs of adjoining tables of at least two meters.

The counselor has also referred to transport and the agreement reached with the main operators to increase the frequency in order to avoid crowds.

He also alluded to the conversations held with the commercial sector to avoid the massive influx and recalled that the weekend, in which most of the shops held a weekend of discounts, “there was everything” in reference to the who respected the maximum capacity and those who did not.

Likewise, the agreement approved today regulates the religious celebrations that must maintain the current capacity and in which songs and choirs are prohibited.

Regarding large events, it is established that parties, festivals and other popular events that involve crowding of people or displacement of participants that cannot be controlled, such as parades in their classic format, parties and cotillions, may not be held.

Any other mass event will be subject to prior authorization.

Activities such as visiting the portals of Bethlehem or the Three Kings may be organized, as long as there is a delimited space where access and capacity can be controlled, in order to guarantee the maintenance of the interpersonal safety distance, the mask use and other general preventive measures and should preferably be outdoors.

In coordination with local entities, it is recommended to favor a greater use of the public thoroughfare in the open air so that there are more spaces available for the public, as well as for the realization of cultural events, activities for children or for hotels and restaurants. Commerce.

Trujillo has indicated that the agreement also establishes that the Health and Social Rights ministries will jointly establish the specific preventive measures in relation to the exits of residents from the social health centers during these dates.

In any case, it is recommended that when residents of residential social health centers make a longer outing for Christmas celebrations, they are restricted to a single address and maintaining a stable coexistence bubble.

Upon re-admission, a diagnostic test for active infection should be performed and the days after re-admission, surveillance and prevention measures will be taken extreme, the counselor has indicated.
