The clean-up action of the southern littoral takes place on the first Saturday of every month promoted by the companies Pura Vida Diving and Kayak and Walk Lanzarote with the support of the Yaiza City Council and the Biosphere Reserve Office. More volunteers joined the second day held last Saturday at Playa Flamingo, where a group of twenty divers took out all kinds of debris from the seabed while another team of ten neighbors carried out their task in the beach environment.
The objective in addition to collecting plastic, cans, bottles, wood and packaging tetra brik, among other elements, is to raise awareness and sensitize society about the damage to the environment littering waste indiscriminately and without any control. The volunteers found Saturday a rusty fire extinguisher and a wooden pallet lying in corners near the beach.
The next day will be on Saturday, May 5 starting at 9:30 am on the beach of Las Coloradas. Interested volunteers can register by calling the numbers 620281900 or 616552723. In Las Coloradas there will be no underwater activity, only beach cleaning, following the planning established by the initiative to alternate the double action of cleaning the beach and seabed with cleaning of the beach
The Councilor for Environment of Yaiza, Marcial Viñoly, present at Playa Flamingo, thanks the participating promoters and volunteers and encourages more young people and adults to join the next action on May 5th. The City promotes the days and supplies gloves and bags for the collection of waste and is responsible for its transfer to the Zozamas Environmental Complex.
