Tourism Lanzarote is optimistic for the summer that has already begun and especially for the winter season. Héctor Fernández assures that the available air seats have increased in some countries to levels similar to those of the summer of 2019, when there was no pandemic. “We are talking about a bag of about thirty million people, already vaccinated, who can come on vacation to Spain, the Canary Islands and, of course, Lanzarote and on Monday we will have movement of four Jet2 operations, also from Tui United Kingdom, Easyjet regains connectivity, British Airways and other strong companies that also have available seats ”.
He acknowledges that the increase in the accumulated incidence of infections in the Canary Islands in recent weeks has been a setback, but believes that it will not prevent the arrival of tourists. “It is true that the accumulated incidence in the Canary Islands is suffering a significant deterioration in recent weeks, especially in the case of Tenerife, but it affects Lanzarote because it is analyzed from the perspective of the Canary Islands,” he pointed out.
Héctor Fernández valued as very good news for the island the fact that the British government allows as of today that their compatriots can come to Lanzarote without having to quarantine upon return those who are vaccinated with the complete guideline. “This fact is going to help us a lot, in fact as of this Monday, the large British operators begin to develop air operations, something they have not done for a long time,” he says.
Fernández, who stopped by Café de Periodistas, is clear that the Canary Islands will benefit this summer from national tourism who prefer to travel to safe areas of their country. “The national market is now very dynamic and the two archipelagos are going to benefit from long-distance destinations such as the Caribbean where the danger to a national family is more than evident,” he says. “The number of available places is the perfect indicator, now those places have to be filled and that is the capacity of Turismo Lanzarote to try to give visibility to the destination.”
The other good news is that Irish tourists, Lanzarote’s second best customer, can already come to the island starting today by providing the European Union covid 19 passport.
