- THE VOLCANO “TURNS OFF” TEMPORARILY AND MOVES SOUTH
Seismic activity reactivates with 16 earthquakes this Monday in Fuencaliente
A new danger threatens the Isla Bonita, since, after the momentary “stop” of the emission of ash and smoke from the volcano that has been erupting for eight days on the island of La Palma, after a night of constant explosions, the Seismic activity has reactivated and is heading to the south of the island.
The column of smoke that dispersed ash throughout the island disappeared around seven in the morning on Monday and there was hardly any activity in the volcano, although it is not the first time since the beginning of the eruption in which these periods of inactivity have occurred.
From the port of Tazacorte, small columns of smoke were observed along the course of the main stream that devastated the town of Todoque, which last night was about 1,600 meters from the coastline without having reached the sea.
In these eight days of eruption, other cyclical episodes have already been recorded, alternating highly explosive moments with others of relative calm.
However, just a couple of hours later, seismic activity has been reactivated this Monday morning on the island of La Palma and has moved south, with 16 earthquakes located in the north of Fuencaliente, according to the Institute. National Geographic (IGN).
The most intense has been located at 06.05 hours and at a depth of 10 kilometers, and in general, all are above magnitude 2 and at depths ranging between 9 and 13 kilometers.
