Lanzarote recorded a slight 0.1% drop in tourist arrivals in February 2025 compared to the same month the previous year, according to the latest data from the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC). Despite this decline, the island’s tourism sector set a new revenue record, reaching €86 million, an 11.4% increase compared to February 2024.
According to the Statistics on Tourist Movements at the Canary Islands’ Borders (Frontur-Canarias), the island received 280,604 visitors in February, just 167 fewer than the previous year. However, the 197 operating accommodation establishments generated a turnover of over 86 million euros, compared to 77.2 million euros in February 2024, making this February the most profitable in Lanzarote’s tourism history.
The president of the Island Council and Minister of Tourism, Oswaldo Betancort, hailed these figures as a sign that the island’s tourism strategy is on the right track.
“Lanzarote continues to invest in quality, sustainable tourism. We are interested in consolidating a destination that offers high-value experiences, with first-class accommodations, services, and cuisine. These results confirm that the sector continues to strengthen and that we maintain our appeal in strategic markets.”
For his part, SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote CEO Héctor Fernández outlined the economic performance: “The increase in revenue is largely due to the hotel sector, which generated revenue of around €69 million. Tourist apartments and other accommodations accounted for €17 million. With more than 1.43 million overnight stays and nearly 235,600 guests in February, the island demonstrates that quality remains the core of its strategy.”
Regarding source markets, the report notes declines in tourist arrivals from Spain (from 17,489 in 2024 to 16,603 in 2025), as well as from Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy. However, increases were recorded from the United Kingdom, France, and Ireland.
Although February was slightly below January in terms of revenue (when it reached 89.8 million), forecasts indicate that 2025 could close with a record turnover of over 1.1 billion euros, surpassing the 972 million achieved in 2024.
The Island Council and SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote continue to support a sustainable tourism model that guarantees economic, social, and environmental balance and positions Lanzarote as a competitive, high-quality destination internationally.
