On Monday, dozens of residents in Lanzarote met at the Chamber of Commerce to learn more details about the draft law on holiday rentals. Ascav has asked for a halt or a moratorium since they do not agree with many points raised by the regional government.

 

Furthermore, Doris Borrego, as spokesperson for the Canary Islands Association of Holiday Rentals, believes that the measure being taken by the Government may have the opposite effect to that intended and favour precisely the large property owners or those entire buildings under a holiday rental regime to the detriment of the small owner.

 

The Supreme Court’s ruling was also qualified, stating that the owners of properties may be prohibited from renting out tourist accommodation. What the Supreme Court has clarified is that in order to carry out this activity, there must be at least 3/5 support from the community of neighbours. See the video here
