The president of the Association of Self-Employed Workers (ATA), Lorenzo Amor, commented on Wednesday that nearly 300,000 self-employed “may be forced” in the next six months to close their businesses.
For Amor, “many freelancers are considering closing even without a new confinement” and has indicated in an interview on Radio Intereconomía that “a new confinement would undoubtedly be more serious.”
Regarding this possibility, the president of ATA has said that 72% of the self-employed group “plans to close or reduce its workforce” if there is a new confinement.
He stressed that the measures implemented by the Government since July 1 “have been a failure, among other things because the context has nothing to do with the current one.”
“Many sectors such as nightlife and tourism have been forced to close and the contributions of the self-employed and workers continue to run,” Amor denounced.
According to his data, other countries “are reducing” the VAT on hospitality or tourism, which is why he has requested a temporary reduction to 50% of this tax to sectors such as hairdressing, gyms, commerce, hospitality or The tourism.
Lorenzo Amor has stressed: “Either we act or we will all go under.”
He has asked the Government for a “Marshall Plan” of the country without waiting for European aid, an extension of the ERTE “until the next” tourist campaign and has advanced that the Executive must implement measures “as soon as possible”, since it has predicted that ” a very hard September is coming “.
