The U18 pre-season tour in Lanzarote is coming to an end on Wed 25 and the players and staff are already looking forward to returning in the future.

The objective of the tour is not only to provide a week of training for the players, but also to explore the opportunity of establishing an affiliation with local Club Unión Puerto Del Carmen.

The team and staff managed to enjoy some leisure time in between training and the match to experience what a great island this is. They really enjoyed the time they spent on the beach in Puerto del Carmen and last Thursday they had a fantastic time at Go Karting San Bartolomé.

They played a game against the local “Juveniles” from Puerto del Carmen on Saturday, a 2-0 victory for the Bluebirds in this the first of their pre-season games.

At the press conference organized by Tias Town Hall yesterday, the local authorities thanked the Cardiff City FC for choosing Lanzarote for their tour and for the promotion of the island as a “tourist and sports” destination. All those present at the conferece felt it a great sucess as the atmosphere and welcome from all sides was particulary relaxed and friendly. One highlight in particular was when the Tías Mayor, José Francisco Hernández, together with the Director of “Turismo Lanzarote”, Héctor Fernández, and the Sports Councillor for Tías, Yolanda García, were presented with Bluebirds shirts and they immediately put them on.

Speaking on behalf of Cardiff City was Neil Ardley, Academy Manager, who is ultimately responsible for the Academy programme and is actively involved with the U18 team on a daily basis. He thanked the local authorities for granting the use of the sports facilities, the Cabildo for supplying local transport, and the Lanzarote Business Association for starting the negotiations and being the link with the local Club and authorities from the very beginning.
