Germany permits travel to the Canaries

Last night the German government updated its travel advice, removing the Canary Islands from its list of countries and regions that are not recommended for travel.

Canarian president Ángel Victor Torres welcomed the news, tweeting that the decision was “good news.” Germany has required quarantine measures for those returning from the Canaries since 2nd September, but a reversal of the decision has been widely expected in recent weeks, owing to the good performance of the islands in controlling Covid-19.

Germany’s travel recommendations, which apply from October 24th say “The Canary Islands in Spain and the region Ida-Viru in Estonia are no longer considered as risk areas.”
