Lanzarote will continue one more week in Phase 2. That has been the decision of the Governing Council ahead of Wednesday’s session where the different situations on the islands of the archipelago have been studied. Despite the efforts of the experts and the data, the easternmost island remains as it was; This was announced by both the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, and the general director of Public Health, José Juan Alemán.

Concern with Tenerife

Among the highlights and one of the decisions that have attracted the most attention has been the rise of Tenerife to Phase 3 due to the increase in positive cases in the last week. Trujillo himself affirmed that on the chicharrera island “the most important focus of infections is in people under 45 years of age, and infections are being seen in people over 65 years of age.”

Both Trujillo and Alemán pointed out that this change aims to slow the advance of the pandemic and anticipate the increase that current data glimpse on the island for the next few days.
