Lanzarote successfully completes an innovative project for a safe tourist experience

 

The Cabildo de Lanzarote will present this model of safe tourism at the International Tourism Fair, Fitur-Tech

Lanzarote becomes the first safe tourist destination in the world, with the successful conclusion of a pioneering and innovative pilot project: “Lanzarote Covid Safe”.

This test, promoted by the Cabildo de Lanzarote and in which Alastria, King’s College London, IN2 and Continuam participate, began on May 14 and lasted 4 days. The participants, more than sixty national and international tourists,

A total of 380 non-invasive Queen PCRs have been performed, both atbeing interoperable with the future EU COVID-19 certificate. After the successful conclusion of the Proof of Concept, its upcoming implementation in island tourism is expected.

The president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, is very satisfied with the result of the project.“En esta prueba piloto han participado 60 turistas representantes del sector de la salud, turismo y la tecnología a nivel internacional, procedentes de España, Bélgica, Reino Unido y Emiratos Árabes, empresarios y miembros de la administración pública española y de la UE. Queremos situar a Lanzarote a la vanguardia como destino seguro pionero a nivel internacional. Desde el inicio de la pandemia hemos venido trabajando sin descanso para garantizar a los mercados turísticos que Lanzarote es una isla segura”

For his part, the Minister of Tourism Lanzarote, Ángel Vázquez, adds that“Tourism accounts for 35% of the Canarian wealth and almost 20% of the tourists who come to the archipelago choose Lanzarote as the destination island, hence the importance of this pioneering project”

To revive this strategic sector, different institutions sponsored by the Cabildo and Lanzarote Tourism have devised this comprehensive solution that combines scientific research and technology to respond to the needs of the island’s economic activity,at the same time that it allows to prevent, monitor and control the probability of contagion.

“This project is the result of public-private collaboration, between the Cabildo and different institutions and companies,which is based on applying to a specific need a scientific solution that is possible thanks to blockchain technology ”,explained María Parga, co-founder of Alastria.
