After the strong winds that hit Lanzarote last week, the weekend brought an unexpected but welcome calm, accompanied by high temperatures and a light haze at altitude. It was a summer break that allowed Lanzarote’s coastline to show off its best side.
Thousands of people, both residents and tourists, took to the sea to cool off. In some inland areas on the southwest coast, temperatures exceeded 32 degrees, making the beaches the perfect refuge from the heat.
Famara, the coves of Puerto del Carmen, and the beaches of Papagayo were filled with bathers, many of whom spent the afternoon until after eight to enjoy the good weather. In Arrecife, young people took advantage of places like the fish market pier, the steps of the Parque Islas Canarias, and the Puente de Las Bolas bridge to cool off and socialize in the fresh air.
In the northeast, La Garita Beach in Arrieta was also filled with activity, as were the natural pools of Punta Mujeres.
Starting today, Monday, temperatures are expected to drop slightly thanks to the gradual arrival of the trade winds. Wind speeds will reach up to 30 kilometers per hour, far from the gusts of over 80 km/h recorded in the middle of last week.
As for the forecast, Arrecife will have temperatures today ranging between 22 and 29 degrees. Tomorrow, Tuesday, a drop of one or two degrees is expected.
However, high temperatures, potentially exceeding 37 degrees, are expected in the western islands. In fact, yellow weather alerts have been issued in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and La Palma.
