Last December, total passengers on cruise ships landed in Arrecife stood at 83,228, with a 25.86% increase in the last month compared to the same period of 2018.

As reported by the City Council of Arrecife, the port of the capital managed to add in 2019 the amount of 97,076 tourists in ocean liners, compared to 2018. In the total of 2018 the number of passengers amounted to 423,116 and in 2019 it was 520,192.

The rise in the port of La Luz and Las Palmas was 6.93% during 2019. With a figure of 723,655 cruise in front of 676,739 46 in 2018, in the main port in the capital of the island of Gran Canaria.

The total volume of passengers disembarked during 2019 in the Puertos del Estado network in the province of Las Palmas amounted to 1,487,985 compared to 1,333,375 in 2018 with a rise of 11.60%. In Puerto del Rosario, in Fuerteventura, the rise experienced in the arrival of tourists on cruise ships was only, throughout the year, of 4.55%.

The mayor of Arrecife, the popular Astrid Pérez, stressed that these figures demonstrate the strength of the capital of Lanzarote in the cruise tourism circuit and endorses the need to continue improving port infrastructure.

The first mayor considers the expansion planned in 2021, in the State Ports Plan, of the second phase of the cruise ship dock in Arrecife vital. Currently, the mayor recalled, the Las Palmas Port Authority is in tender for technical assistance to study the project for this extension of the cruise ship dock.

For this summer of 2020, Astrid Pérez recalled, the completion of the construction works of the South Dike is scheduled, highly demanded by the port sector in the face of frequent southern storms that at that time of the year ballast the port operation of the Los Dock Marbles and the Cruise Ship Pier in the capital of Lanzarote.
