Last October was warmer than September in Lanzarote. And also that July, according to the balance released by the Cabildo Data Center, based on usual estimates from the State Meteorological Agency. It was the second hottest month of all of 2023, with an average temperature of 26.3 degrees Celsius.

Only August had an average temperature higher, with a value of 27.6 degrees Celsius. Compared to the tenth month of last year, when the thermometers were more in line with the records assumed for the first weeks of autumn, the difference is almost two degrees.

So far this millennium there has not been a month of October with such a striking temperature, from above. This circumstance largely helps explain why this year is on track to be the hottest since the beginning of the century. In the absence of November and December, the general value rises to 23 degrees Celsius. The highest average from 2001 onwards occurred in 2010, with a temperature of 22.4 degrees Celsius.

Three days of rain

Last month we were lucky to have some noticeable rain on three dates, the report from the Cabildo Data Center adds. You have to go back no less than May to find dates with any precipitation. The rain that fell in October, however, was of little relevance
