Tourism Lanzarote has begun the installation, mostly in areas of access to the island through nautical infrastructures, ten touch screens that offer tourist information in five languages through a Web App. By capturing a QR code, tourists can download the information about the island offered by this Web App (www.odyssea.eu/mbl/arrecife/) in its electronic devices, structured in four thematic scales: nautical, culture, flavors and nature.   https://youtu.be/T6gusyPP3AU

Four of these touch screens, integrated into totems, are located in the tourist information offices of Marina Lanzarote, Puerto Calero and Marina Rubicón, as well as in the Casa de la Cultura of Arrecife. The remaining six will be installed, with an extendable boom device, in other coastal areas of the insular geography, as explained during the presentation ceremony held Thursday at the Lanzarote Tourist Information Office Lanzarote in Arrecife.

The Councilor for Tourism Promotion of the Cabildo of Lanzarote , Ángel Vázquez (PP) , considered that “the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Company (SPEL) makes a new and important advance in its positioning at the forefront in terms of digital marketing strategy”, with the start-up of this initiative -financed with European funds (INTERREG VA MAC program 2014-2020) – which mainly aims to boost interest in the destination and increase the spending of tourists arriving in Lanzarote on sailboats and yachts.

For his part, the CEO of Tourism Lanzarote-SPEL, Hector Fernandez , described this action as “the most important of those linked to the Odyssea network of the Blue Ecotour project, which aims to boost nautical tourism and bring it closer to the land” and in the one that other territories of the Macaronesia participate as partners. In addition, he added, “it will accelerate the digitization of our information points and the access of tourists to the information provided by our sponsoring partners.”

As he explained, ” the philosophy of this project is that coastal tourism has a greater contact with terrestrial tourism because many times the sailors just get off their boats, so it seeks to encourage their interest to visit the island and therefore increase their tourist spending , which fits perfectly with the Tourism Lanzarote strategy “ .

The Web App is conceived as “an integrating tool that will make it possible to connect the nautical tourist with the small agri-food producers of the island, who will be able to offer their products at an international level”, as detailed by the project’s technical consultant, Regis López, who also highlighted that “it will offer to the navigators tourist information on the coastal zone that they travel as they approach Lanzarote, in addition to facilitating maritime cartography”.

He also underlined the possibility that Turismo Lanzarote-SPEL will have at all times to manage the contents, which will be offered through audios and texts in Spanish, English, French, German and Portuguese, and hundreds of photographs; and added that “the software contains descriptive audio files of all the most important points of the island, also allowing the creation of individualized travel routes by sending to the travel notebook the elements of the destination that each tourist chooses
