Thanks to LANCELOT DIGITAL – The Canary Islands, among the communities that lost the most tourists in 2020

The Canary Islands were one of the autonomous communities that lost the most tourists in 2020. The islands registered a drop of 71.2% and stood at close to 3.8 million tourists. 30.4% came from the United Kingdom and 21.4% from Germany.

These figures are far from the 15.1 million tourists who visited the islands in 2019.

These figures place the Archipelago in the block of autonomous communities that lost the most tourists, along with Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.

During 2020, Spain received 19 million international tourists, which represents a decrease of 77.3% compared to 2019, when 83.5 million visitors arrived in the country.

This drastic decline is marked, obviously, by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in March and the subsequent mobility restrictions adopted by Spain and by tourist-sending countries.

France stands out as the main source of tourists during 2020, something that is not surprising if one takes into account that it has been one of the only large markets that has not imposed major restrictions on travel to Spain. 3.9 million Gauls visited the country, representing a drop of 65.2%. They are followed by the British (3.1 million and a drop of 82.4%), the Germans (2.4 million and -78.4%) and the Nordics (1.1 million and -78.8%).
