The end of summer has been noticeable in the unemployment lists, although in the case of the lists in a more softened way. In the Canary Islands, the number of unemployed registered in the offices of the public employment services of the Canary Islands grew by 446 people, compared to the almost 25,000 more unemployed registered nationwide.

In annual terms, the Canary Islands improves its unemployment figures by 17,360 people, which represents a cut of 9.12 percent compared to the number of unemployed registered in August 2022.

Specifically, the number of registered unemployed in the country as a whole increased by 24,826 people in August compared to the previous month (+0.9%), driven, above all, by the services sector, which concentrated a good part of the increase in unemployment. The August increase puts an end to a streak of five consecutive months of unemployment declines.

At the end of the eighth month of the year, the total number of unemployed people in the country once again exceeded the barrier of 2.7 million people, from which it had fallen for the first time in 15 years last June.

Specifically, August ended with 2,702,700 people unemployed, the lowest number in an August since 2008, according to data published this Monday by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.
