Thanks to LANCELOT DIGITAL – The data: “year 2019 vs year 2020” in Lanzarote

The Cabildo de Lanzarote, through the Data Center , has provided the figures for recent years in order to establish a real comparison of the most influential aspects in Lanzarote society.

2020 was a particularly tough year, involved in one of the toughest economic and health crises that Spain has endured throughout the centuries. Moreover, framing it in recent history, economic stagnation and the paralysis of all social spheres, it was necessary to add fear, illness and death. This gave 2020 enough attributes to consider it the most complex year in recent decades.

The number of companies according to their economic activity is as follows:

Companies  Year 2019 Year 2020
farming 95 98
Industry 163 156
Building 403 385
Services 4399 3962

In the general calculation, the decrease in companies in Lanzarote has been from 5,060 to 4,601 in one year; that is to say, from 2019 to 2020. Detailing the last decade, the easternmost island of the archipelago had experienced constant growth from 2010 to 2018, with the last two years being the object of study (2019 and 2020) those that have had a decreasing character.

Affiliations to Social Security have also decreased in this last year from 65,404 to 58,371 . In the field of Construction, a slight increase was perceived; however in Agriculture, Industry and Services Sector there has been a decrease.

The number of unemployed has also been another of the records that has increased from 11,339 to 18,297 in 2020 . Like the registered contracts, which present worrying indicators. It has gone from just over 68,000 contracts to less than half (29,577). About 20 thousand people have been affected by the ERTE (20,771)

The tourism was one of the sectors most disadvantaged by the immobility required by governments. In 2019 we received 3,065,315 and in 2020 we did not reach 800,000 (795,423, exactly).

The drop in visitors to the CACTs has been very significant, from almost 3 million visitors to a low 1 million.

Crime indicators have naturally declined, largely because in 2020 we were confined or with reduced mobility for many months.

Also, finally, the collection of specific waste, urban household waste, CO2 emissions and electricity production, among others, has decreased.
