Pedro San Ginés took up his post as President of the Cabildo de Lanzarote yesterday, and during the inauguration speech he said:
“The tourism industry is our main source of employment, wealth and welfare and is to

drive the rest of our economy”.
He made an important announcement: the “Consejería de Turismo” (local Ministry of Tourism) will bring together both the Patronato de Turismo (Tourist Board), and the Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo (Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Río, Montañas del Fuego/Timanfaya, Cueva de los Verdes, Jardín de Cactus, MIAC Castillo San José y Monumento al Campesino – http://www.centrosturisticos.com), and will also deal with tourism management.
The head of this Board will be a professional of the Tourism industry under the political leadership of a government advisor to the group. In the previous mandate, the Patronato and Centros were managed by different members of the Cabildo (Consejeros).

The president stressed the need to adopt the new Island Plan “and all the plans that may be required to provide legal security on the island, and thus attract potential investors.”
