The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands extends for another month the screening of national passengers arriving by air or sea to the Canary Islands, a measure that is published today in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands and that, therefore, will remain in force until 24 hours a day on March 15, 2022.
With this measure, the Regional Council intends to control and contain imported cases of coronavirus in travelers from other parts of the national territory, while promoting vaccination against COVID-19.
Thus, people who arrive in the Canary Islands from another Spanish Autonomous Community must present the vaccination certificate against COVID-19, a diagnostic test for negative active infection or the certificate of having had the disease less than six months before the date of arrival. displacement.
It was on December 1 when the Ministry of Health launched this measure, as it was done between December 2020 and September 2021.
Between December 1 and yesterday, Monday, February 14, a total of 777,188 passengers entered the Canary Islands from the national territory, of which 99 percent did so accrediting one of the conditions included in the standard.
This regulation contemplates the exclusion of screening through diagnostic tests for active infection (PDIA) to passengers under 12 years and three months who enter the Canary Islands from the rest of the national territory, by air or sea, to contain the spread of infections caused by SARS-CoV-2.
For the rest of the population, the regulations that require them to present a vaccination certificate against COVID-19 or to undergo a Diagnostic Test for Active Infection (PDIA) for SARS-CoV-2 with a negative result, will continue to be in force, carried out at origin within the 72 hours prior to arrival in the Canary Islands in the case of PCR and 48 hours in the case of an antigen test.
In the exceptional case that a person had not undergone the PDIA at origin, it will be done at the arrival terminal; and those who refuse to carry it out must keep isolation in their residence for 10 days, without prejudice to the sanctioning measures that could be taken.
Assumptions of exclusion of performance of the PDIA
The presentation of a negative PDIA will not be required at the time of entry to the Canary Islands in the following cases, in addition to those under 12 years and three months:
- People who prove they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the complete vaccination schedule at least 14 days prior to their arrival in the Archipelago.
- People who prove they have had the disease less than 6 months before the date of displacement and with a minimum of 11 days from the positive result of the first diagnostic test.
- People in transit through the territory of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, that is, those who make a stopover in the Canary Islands whose final destination is another country or another place in the national territory.
- People who prove they have been outside the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for less than 72 hours prior to arrival, regardless of their place of residence.
