Thanks to LANCELOT DIGITAL –  The Tourism Sustainability Plan of Lanzarote, a priority island objective

The president of the Cabildo, Mª Dolores Corujo, and the insular councilor for Tourism and Economic Promotion, Ángel Vázquez, held a meeting with mayors and tourism councilors of the island’s municipalities on Monday morning in which they addressed the ‘Plan of Tourist Sustainability of Lanzarote ‘.

 

This is a preliminary working document prepared by the first island Corporation, through the areas of Economic and Tourism Promotion and the Foreign Promotion Society of Lanzarote (SPEL), which contemplates a prior diagnosis of the island’s situation in the matter tourism sustainability, as well as a proposal that includes objectives, strategic axes and an action plan to be developed, with a series of descriptive files for each municipality.

 

The objective is to develop an island sustainability plan with which to attend the second call for the Plans for Sustainable Tourism in Destinations launched by the Secretary of State for Tourism, whose deadline for submission to councils and city councils ends next May.

 

These plans are financed in equal parts by the Ministry of Tourism, the Government of the Canary Islands and local entities, each of the three administrations contributing 33% of the funds.

 

The president of the Cabildo, Mª Dolores Corujo, highlighted “that the Government of Spain has bet, as never before, to advance in tourist destinations towards a model based on sustainability in its three dimensions: economic, environmental and territorial. “, and added that” this strategy is going to mean an extraordinary improvement for Lanzarote that will boost the island tourism sector in total harmony with the island’s most genuine values ​​and closely linked to our society. ”

 

During the working meeting, held in the Plenary Hall of the Cabildo, the counselor Ángel Vázquez made the municipal representatives aware of this project in detail “with the aim of sharing it, working together on it, joining collaborative efforts and converging on the development of a complete insular strategic plan ”

 

The objective of the document ‘Lanzarote Tourism Sustainability Plan. Objectives and main actions’, which was prepared by a technical team in collaboration with a specialized consulting firm, is “to present a consolidated proposal around the narrative line ‘Spirit Lanzarote, the Island landscape’ based on the redefinition of product-market strategies (less is more); the repositioning (single island) and the optimization of the profitability of the tourism sector (proposals and resources), which will improve its competitiveness as a tourist destination “.

 

The Minister of Tourism Promotion emphasizes that “the plan includes all the major levers of sustainability”, among which are a governance model that stimulates the development of the island landscape; circular economy, sustainable mobility and responsible consumption; management platform, intelligence system and digital infrastructure; training and recruitment of talent; recovery of Lanzarote’s heritage and development of experiences, as well as repositioning of the Lanzarote brand and its thematic proposals, as well as the implementation of clean energy, among other areas.
